Prenatal and Perinatal Somatics

Somatics

Somatic therapy is a gentle, body-centered approach to healing that recognizes the deep connection between the body, mind, and nervous system. The word somatic comes from the Greek word soma, meaning “body.” Rather than focusing only on thoughts or stories about past experiences, somatic therapy works directly with the body’s sensations, impulses, and patterns—where stress and trauma are often held.

When these experiences are too intense, too fast, or happen without enough support—especially in early life—the nervous system may not fully process them. Instead, the body stores these experiences as unresolved stress patterns, often outside of conscious awareness.

Over time, these early imprints can influence how we feel, relate, and respond to the world. They may show up as anxiety, chronic tension, emotional reactivity, difficulty with boundaries, or a general sense of being “on edge” or shut down. Somatic therapy gently supports the nervous system in completing and integrating these unfinished responses.

What Happens in a Session?

Sessions are slow, collaborative, and guided by your nervous system’s pace. The foundation of this work is safety.

During a session, we may:

  • Slow down and bring awareness to present-moment physical sensations

  • Notice subtle shifts in breath, muscle tone, temperature, or posture

  • Track areas of tension, activation, or numbness

  • Support resources: sensations of safety, strength, or grounding

  • Allow stored stress and emotion to release gradually and naturally

You are never pushed to revisit overwhelming material. Instead, we work in small, manageable pieces so your nervous system can be at calm.

By gently tuning into bodily sensations, you build the capacity to safely notice, hold, and transform stored stress. As the nervous system experiences new patterns of support and regulation, it can reorganize toward greater resilience and ease.

Somatic therapy is about supporting your
nervous system’s natural capacity to
heal and return to balance.

At its core, pre- and perinatal somatic therapy honors the wisdom of the body. It recognizes that healing does not come from forcing change, but from creating the conditions where your system feels safe enough to unwind what has been held.

Through careful attention, attuned presence, and respect for your body’s pace, this work offers a compassionate pathway toward deeper regulation, connection, and wholeness.

You are always in control — during your session and in your life.
